Biosafety Authority Pledges Support For Learners With Disabilities

The National Biosafety Authority has pledged to strengthen partnerships aimed at improving learning conditions and expanding educational opportunities for children with special needs across the country.

The commitment was made during a Corporate Social Responsibility programme at Isiolo School for the Deaf, where NBA staff interacted with learners, teachers, parents and education stakeholders.

Led by Director Legal Services Moses Sande on behalf of acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Ann Karimi, the team donated food supplies and planted trees at the institution.

The donated items included rice, maize, beans, cooking oil and milk, which school administrators said would support learners’ welfare and contribute to daily operations.

In remarks delivered by Sande, Dr Karimi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting inclusive development across communities throughout the country.

“This visit reflects on the Authority’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting institutions that play a vital role in nurturing and empowering our children,” said Dr Karimi.

She noted that inclusive development remains critical to national progress and commended teachers, parents and guardians for their efforts in supporting learners with special needs.

Sande said the Authority’s corporate social responsibility programmes seek to create positive social impact while strengthening partnerships that contribute to national development goals.

“We are happy with what the school, board of management and the ministry of education have done to learners so far. We will look for more resources so that we can support the institution,” said Mr Sande.

He said the authority recognized that the school being in an arid area need more support from well-wishers to enable the learners to learn under a conducive environment

School principal Godfrey Gikunda welcomed the donation, noting that the boarding institution serves learners whose families often face financial challenges in meeting educational needs.

He thanked national and county governments alongside well-wishers for their continued support, saying such assistance helps ensure learning programmes continue uninterrupted at the institution.

Assistant Director of Education Eric Bundi said the visit had motivated learners and demonstrated the value of collaborative efforts in supporting special needs education.

“The Ministry is happy for such initiatives that will go along way in supporting the institution,” said Mr Bundi.

The visit concluded with a tour of the school’s facilities and a renewed commitment to strengthen collaboration aimed at improving educational opportunities for learners with special needs.
