Government Apologizes Over JKIA Disruption As Talks To Restore Operations Continue

The Government has apologized for the disruption at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), saying it recognizes the impact on passengers, airlines, businesses and Kenya’s international links.

In a statement, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi said the Government was engaging all parties involved to address the issues affecting operations at the country’s main international airport.

It said its immediate priority was to restore normal operations safely and in an orderly way as discussions continue on a lasting solution.

“The Government recognizes the serious disruption currently affecting operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), and the significant impact this situation is having on passengers, airlines, businesses and Kenya’s international connectivity,” Mudavadi said.

The disruption has caused concern among travellers and others who rely on JKIA as a main entry and exit point for international travel. The Government acknowledged the inconvenience caused to affected passengers.

It urged travellers facing disruption to remain patient and stay in touch with their airlines for updates on flight schedules and alternative travel arrangements.

The Government said talks with the relevant parties were ongoing, with efforts focused on resolving the issues and restoring operations safely and in an orderly way.

“Our immediate priority is to facilitate the safe and orderly restoration of normal airport operations while working towards a sustainable resolution of the matters under discussion,” he said.

JKIA plays a central role in Kenya’s international transport network and is a major gateway for passengers and cargo. The Government said the airport is also important to the country’s trade, tourism, investment and diplomatic activity.

It also serves as a regional hub, linking Kenya to international destinations and supporting travel across the region. Disruptions at the airport can affect not only individual travellers, but also airlines, businesses and other sectors that depend on reliable international connections.

The Government said it was treating the situation with urgency because of JKIA’s importance to the country.

It also sought to reassure the aviation industry, the public and Kenya’s international partners that it remained actively involved in efforts to resolve the matter.

“We assure the public, the aviation industry and our international partners that the Government remains fully seized of the matter and will continue engaging all relevant stakeholders in good faith,” he said.

The Government said it would continue engaging the parties involved as talks continue, with a further update expected once there is more progress.

In the meantime, affected passengers have been advised to keep checking directly with their airlines for the latest information on flights and travel arrangements.
