Mudavadi Wants ‘Unchallenged’ Ruto Win Through Expanded Voter Turnout

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said Kenya Kwanza leaders should mobilise supporters to register as voters in order to deliver what he described as an overwhelming mandate for the President. He said the region’s previous voter registration performance had fallen below expectations and needed improvement in the next exercise.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on supporters of President William Ruto to register as voters in large numbers ahead of the next General Election, saying a decisive victory would help avert another protracted presidential petition at the Supreme Court.

Speaking during prayers and a fundraiser for St Peter’s Cathedral in Kapsabet, Nandi County, Mudavadi urged residents of the Rift Valley region to turn out in large numbers during the next voter registration exercise to bolster President Ruto’s re-election prospects.

“Since Kenya got into multi-party politics, it is only the late President Mwai Kibaki’s victory in 2002 that was not challenged in court,” Mudavadi said, arguing that previous and subsequent presidential elections had all ended up before the Supreme Court.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said Kenya Kwanza leaders should mobilise supporters to register as voters in order to deliver what he described as an overwhelming mandate for the President. He said the region’s previous voter registration performance had fallen below expectations and needed improvement in the next exercise.

Mudavadi further urged leaders allied to the government to actively defend its development record, saying opposition figures would not champion the administration’s agenda. He told Cabinet colleagues and elected leaders to use their platforms to explain government programmes and ongoing projects across the country.

“We must break the cycle of petitions, and just like the athletes in this region are breaking world records, we want to work together to ensure President Ruto breaks the record so that we shall not have a presidential petition,” he said.

The remarks come amid renewed political mobilisation within the Kenya Kwanza coalition as leaders intensify grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 elections. Similar calls for voter registration drives have recently been echoed by ruling coalition leaders in several regions as the alliance seeks to consolidate support and avoid the razor-thin margins that have characterised previous presidential contests.

Mudavadi also said President Ruto continued to enjoy strong international standing, linking the anticipated attendance of more than 30 heads of state and government at the upcoming Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi to Kenya’s growing diplomatic profile. Reports ahead of the summit indicate the meeting is expected to focus on investment, job creation and Africa’s role in global economic transformation.

“The Heads of State and Governments are coming to Kenya because of the respect and admiration they have for our President,” Mudavadi said.

The fundraiser was attended by several senior government officials and political leaders, including Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
