Pressure on Naivasha Sub-county Hospital could soon ease as Munyu Dispensary’s new maternity wing nears completion, promising to handle a significant patient load and improve service delivery in surrounding communities.

Official records indicate the Social Health Authority owes Naivasha Sub-county Hospital about KES 100 to 102 million, alongside KES 76 million from NHIF arrears, causing shortages, overcrowding, and strained services.

Governor Susan Kihika hile decrying the non-remittances said the ongoing construction of a maternity block, laboratory, and support facilities marks a major step toward upgrading the dispensary into a fully-fledged health centre.

The facility serves Kinungi residents and neighbouring areas in Naivasha East, as well as patients from Nyandarua, Kiambu and Narok counties seeking essential maternal healthcare services.

“This facility will significantly reduce pressure on Naivasha Subcounty Hospital while improving maternal outcomes locally,” she said, during an inspection visit of the project.

She added that expanding capacity at primary facilities is part of a broader county strategy to decentralise services and reduce congestion at referral hospitals across the region.

The contractor has been directed to complete construction and equip the maternity wing by September to support its transition and enable expanded service delivery at the facility.

The Governor said the upgrade will also include improved diagnostic services through a new laboratory, reducing delays in testing and treatment for patients seeking care locally daily.

The planned elevation to health centre status is expected to expand staffing, increase funding, and strengthen referral systems within Naivasha East, improving overall healthcare access for residents.

“We remain committed to delivering quality, affordable, and timely healthcare services closer to the people across Nakuru County,” she emphasized on her administration’s commitment in the healthcare department.
