As Kenyans continue to face hard economic times that have pushed up the cost of goods and services, Safaricom has introduced cheaper options for its customers.

The company today launched its Pata More product in the Rift Valley region to give customers access to a range of services at lower rates.

Speaking at the Railway Grounds in Nakuru during the launch, Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali said the new offering will give customers internet packages at better prices and make it easier to send money.

She said Safaricom is aware of the challenges facing Kenyans, including higher fuel prices and the rising cost of living that has affected many households.

“We have come to say thanks to our customers for the 26 years they have been with us because it has helped us to grow several products. The launch of this Pata More brand, therefore, is to ease the pain they have faced because of hard economic times,” she said.

Ali added that with digital transformation, the company’s 30 million customers increasingly rely on data for their daily needs. She said the revamped data plans have been tailored to meet those needs.

Kirubi Kairo, General Manager for the Rift Valley region, said the rollout will serve about 11 million customers in the area, many of them farmers.

He said the cheaper packages are expected to boost uptake and improve customer experience, especially by supporting business and farming activities.

Victor Ngumo, Tribe Lead for Commercial Growth, said business operators on the M-Pesa platform will benefit from revised Pochi tariffs.

Transactions of up to KSh 200 on Pochi will be free, allowing small businesses and individual customers to make transactions more easily.

Jane Njorolyn, a fruit vendor, welcomed the move, saying Safaricom’s decision will make it easier for customers to use products across its platforms.

She added that the company has supported small traders whose work contributes to the national economy.
