Cracks have emerged within the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Nakuru County barely a week after gubernatorial aspirant Tabitha Karanja joined the party, following a directive declaring a consultative meeting she convened unauthorized.

In a notice issued this evening, the party rejected the meeting scheduled for Friday at its Nakuru offices in Milimani Estate, warning aspirants and branch officials against attending or facilitating the gathering.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator, who switched to DCP last week, had invited registered party aspirants for Member of County Assembly, Member of Parliament, Senate and Woman Representative positions to a consultative meeting aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.

However, DCP Executive Director Hezron Obaga said the meeting had not been authorized and would not take place, raising questions about coordination between the party’s national leadership and its emerging political figures in Nakuru.

“The Party hereby informs all DCP aspirants in Nakuru County that the meeting convened by gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Tabitha Karanja is unauthorized, contrary to established party procedures, and will not take place,” Obaga stated.

The directive places Karanja’s efforts to bring together local aspirants under scrutiny just days after her entry into the party, with the disagreement emerging as political players position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

DCP also cautioned its Nakuru branch officials against facilitating meetings organized outside the party’s established structures, insisting that all party business must be conducted through approved channels.

“The Nakuru County Branch officials are further cautioned against condoning or facilitating meetings convened outside the party’s established structures and procedures,” Obaga said.

The party warned that members who disregard its procedures could face disciplinary action, emphasizing that compliance was mandatory regardless of an individual’s position or political ambitions.

Karanja had said the proposed meeting was intended to promote unity among aspirants, encourage the exchange of ideas and strengthen collaboration as the party builds its grassroots support in Nakuru.

Karanja’s move to convene a meeting bringing together DCP aspirants across Nakuru has also put the spotlight on her attempts to coordinate the party’s local operations and undermine leadership barely a week after joining.
