Leaders have a responsibility to champion peace, cohesion, and issue-based politics that unite communities and drive development, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has said.

The Governor said political leaders must foster unity and reject divisive rhetoric that threatens social harmony, emphasizing the need for campaigns centered on development issues affecting residents.

She spoke in Ol’kalau Constituency where she joined leaders from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in campaigning for the party’s candidate, Samuel Muchina Nyagah, ahead of the July 16 by-election.

The Ol’kalau parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of third-term MP David Kiaraho on March 29, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

“We firmly reject attempts to sow ethnic division and hatred for political gain and remain committed to peaceful campaigns founded on respect, inclusivity, and service to the people,” said Kihika.

Kihika was accompanied by UDA Party Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Faith Gitau, Irene Njoki, David Gikaria, Maina Karobia and other party officials.

During the meeting, the leaders reaffirmed their support for the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, saying it remains key to accelerating economic growth and improving livelihoods across the country.

They called on voters to back the UDA candidate in the by-election, describing the contest as an opportunity to strengthen the constituency’s representation and support ongoing development initiatives.
