Nakuru County Term 2 Games Kick Off At Njoro Boys

The Nakuru County Term 2 Games kick off today at Njoro Boys High School, bringing together secondary school teams from across the county for three days of competition in football, volleyball, netball, basketball 3×3, rugby sevens and racquet games.

The games, organised under the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, will run from June 30 to July 2, 2026, with Njoro Sub-county hosting this year’s county championships.

According to the programme, the opening day will feature coordination clinics, document presentation and official briefings before the formal opening ceremony at Njoro Boys High School at 3pm.

Competitive action is expected to intensify from July 1, when preliminaries begin in football, volleyball, basketball, netball, rugby sevens and racquet games. Quarterfinal matches in football, volleyball and netball are scheduled for the same day.

The final day, July 2, will feature semifinals, third-place playoffs and finals in football, volleyball, netball, rugby sevens and basketball, followed by the closing ceremony at Njoro Boys.

Njoro Boys High School will host football for boys and girls, volleyball for boys and girls, girls’ netball, badminton and lawn tennis. Kilimo High School will host basketball and rugby sevens, while Njoro Day High School will host table tennis.

Each sub-county is expected to field one team per gender in football, volleyball, basketball and racquet games, while netball will feature girls’ teams only.

The tournament is expected to provide a competitive platform for learners to showcase talent, build teamwork and advance to the next level of school games after emerging from sub-county competitions.

The fixtures have drawn teams from across Nakuru, including Nakuru East, Nakuru West, Nakuru North, Njoro, Molo, Rongai, Gilgil, Naivasha, Subukia, Kuresoi North and Kuresoi South.

In football boys, the pools include teams such as Nakuru West, Molo, Njoro, Gilgil, Koelel, Rongai, Kuresoi North, Nakuru East, Subukia and Naivasha.

The girls’ football category will feature teams including Molo, Rongai, Nakuru East, Subukia, Kuresoi North, Nakuru West, Njoro, Nakuru North, Gilgil and Naivasha.

In volleyball, boys’ and girls’ teams will battle through pool stages before knockout rounds, with the tournament format placing top teams into quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Basketball 3×3 and rugby sevens are also expected to attract strong interest, with both boys’ and girls’ teams listed in the competition programme.

The games will be guided by KSSSA rules, with participating schools required to present certified documents, team lists, birth certificates, school identification and other eligibility records before competition.

Officials have also outlined a sportsmanship pledge for competitors and match officials, emphasizing fair play, discipline, impartial officiating and respect for competition rules.

The county games are a key stage in the school sports calendar, giving learners an opportunity to compete beyond their sub-counties and strengthen Nakuru’s representation in regional competitions.

The best-performing teams and individual players are expected to progress from the county stage as the race for regional at Narok High School from July 6 to July 11, 2026.
