Laikipia County Secretary Wahome Koinange has pledged his unwavering support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in his efforts to unite the country and push for better leadership and governance.
Koinange said the Mt. Kenya region, specifically Laikipia County, had placed high hopes for prosperity, development, and lasting peace in Gachagua’s leadership as Deputy President.
“There are those who chose to do what they did, but a day is coming,” he said, alluding to Gachagua’s impeachment and the region’s political betrayal by the Kenya Kwanza regime.
He spoke during the burial of Gladys Wairimu Kariuki, widow of the late G.G. Kariuki, Laikipia’s first Senator and long-serving Laikipia West Member of Parliament.
Mrs. Kariuki passed away on the morning of Sunday, June 1, at Nairobi Hospital while undergoing treatment. She was 80 and is survived by five children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Koinange praised Gachagua’s steadfast support for the Mt. Kenya region and assured him of Laikipia’s backing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I want to assure you, as Koinange, whenever and wherever you’re counting your friends, count me in. I will be with you and support you in every way,” he said.
He decried ongoing insecurity, noting that, 62 years after independence, Kenya still grapples with serious threats, including police brutality within its own stations.
Koinange said the recent death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’ at the hands of police had deeply shocked and angered the country, urging that justice be dispensed expeditiously.
On his part, Gachagua cautioned police officers against obeying unlawful orders from their superiors, urging them to uphold the Constitution and serve the public with integrity.
