More than 300 widows from various villages in Nakuru Town West received food hampers ahead of Christmas in an initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families during the festive season.
The distribution was held at Soar Kenya Academy and organised by the Soar Kenya Foundation.
Speaking at the event, the foundation’s director, James Yegon, said widows and other vulnerable groups are often overlooked during festive periods.
“From my interaction with them, I realised many struggle to meet basic needs, especially during holidays when expenses increase,” Yegon said.
He said the initiative was supported by well-wishers from the United States, Germany, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, who contributed towards making the programme possible.

Yegon, a resident of the area, said he was familiar with the challenges faced by widows in the community and felt compelled to mobilise support to help them celebrate Christmas like other members of society.
One of the beneficiaries, Jane Kogo, said widows often face social and economic hardships that make it difficult to receive support.
“The food hampers will make our celebrations more enjoyable and give our children something to smile about,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Jane Chepkwony, said many widows lack financial empowerment, making it hard to afford basic needs during festive seasons.
She called on organisations and community members to support widows and other vulnerable groups, especially during holidays.
