A Wednesday evening raid by detectives in Kitutu Central busted a gathering of 23 youths, most of them minors, inside a rented Airbnb apartment in Nyanchwa Village.

Detectives from the DCI Kitutu Central, acting on intelligence, stormed Riverside Apartments after reports that the group had assembled for an unauthorised party.

Police say the teenagers had invited their peers for what was described as free alcohol and other risky behaviour.

A search of the apartment led to the recovery of two 750ml bottles of alcohol (Captain Morgan and Kenya Cane), a packet of Oris cigarettes, and two packets of condoms.

The scene was documented, and all 23 teenagers were escorted to Nyanchwa Police Station for questioning. Their parents were later contacted to pick them up as investigations continue.

The incident comes against the backdrop of growing concern over unsafe activities in short-term rental apartments across the country.

In recent months, several cases involving teenagers and young adults have been reported, with police linking some gatherings to drugs, unsafe sexual behaviour, and in a few tragic incidents, unexplained deaths inside Airbnb units.

Authorities have been warning that Airbnb, and such other unregulated venues are increasingly being misused for orgy parties that put minors at significant risk.
