‎‎The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the licences of 62 public service vehicle (PSV) drivers following a compliance assessment that uncovered widespread violations and serious safety breaches among several operators.‎‎

The crackdown affects seven transport companies, including Tahmeed Express Limited, which recorded the highest number of suspensions at 23 drivers. Other operators with suspended drivers include Latema Travelers Bus and Safari Company Limited (13), Meru Nissan Operators Sacco (10), Moline Prestige Services Shuttle Limited (6), MTrans Sacco Limited (7) and Enabled Mashariki Investment Limited (3).‎‎

NTSA has ordered all affected drivers to undergo mandatory re-testing. Operators have also been directed to conduct road safety awareness training for their entire driver workforce and present selected vehicles for inspection.

‎‎In a statement, NTSA said the enforcement measures are part of a broader effort to improve passenger safety, especially during the festive season when road traffic risks are typically higher.

‎‎“This driver re-testing exercise is part of our wider proactive efforts to ensure every driver possesses the requisite skills and competencies to operate safely on our roads,” the Authority said.

‎‎NTSA added that several transport firms remain under close scrutiny to ensure their drivers and fleets comply fully with established safety standards.‎‎

The agency emphasised that the latest actions underscore its continued commitment to curbing violations within the PSV sector and enhancing overall road safety across the country.
