A man has died after being subjected to mob justice by a group of Tiriki initiates after tresspassing into their initiation site.
The incident occurred at a traditional ‘menjo’ where they stay after the initiation in Maendeleo Village, Matunda Sub-location, Soy , Uasin Gishu County.The victim was identified as Godfrey Oyamo aged 31 years old.
According to police records at Chukura Police Station, the incident occurred on Thursday morning.The reports said that Oyamo allegedly trespassed into the menjo, a secluded area where initiates stay after circumcision period.
Officers who received the reports,rushed to the scene, and Oyamo already killed.The officers in their report said that the body had sustained serious injuries consistent with mob assault.
The remains were moved to Kitale District Mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Authorities have cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that suspects of any wrongdoing must be handed over to police for due process.
