A family in Katani, Athi River, is recovering after a violent robbery in which two masked men stormed their home on Saturday night and assaulted three women.

According to a police report filed at Mavoko Police Station, the incident happened at around 9:30pm while the homeowner was watching television. The suspects, both wearing black masks and armed with machetes, metal rods and rungus, forced their way into the house.

Police say the attackers ordered the man to lead them to the other family members before tying up him, his wife, their two daughters and a house help. They then demanded money and forced the wife and one daughter to transfer Sh50,000 and Sh30,000 to a mobile number linked to the gang.

In the attack that followed, the suspects assaulted the wife, one daughter and the house help. They then ransacked the home and took several electronics and personal items. The stolen items include two HMD phones, two OPPO phones, a Samsung tablet, two HP laptops, a MacBook and assorted household goods.

The gang also fled with the family’s vehicle, a white VW Golf.

The victims were taken to a hospital in Syokimau for treatment. Detectives from DCI Mlolongo and officers from Mavoko Police Station later visited the scene.

Police say investigations are ongoing and that more details will be released as the manhunt for the suspects continues.
