The County Government of Nakuru, alongside the Ministry of Health, has launched a 10-day vaccination campaign from 4th to 13th July 2025.

The initiative targets Measles, Rubella, and Typhoid to address recent outbreaks. By immunizing eligible children, the campaign aims to reduce disease spread and protect public health.

The Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine will be given to children aged 9 months to 59 months (under 5 years). The Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) will cover those aged 9 months to 14 years.

Vaccinations will be available at health facilities, schools, markets, and places of worship.

Mobile teams will conduct house-to-house visits and community outreach.

“Branded healthcare workers will move in the community during that period to ensure all eligible children are reached,” said Gerald Maina, the County Head of Preventive and Promotive Health Services.

He said the community mobilization is key to achieving high vaccination coverage and preventing future outbreaks.

The County Director of Public Health has called on parents, schools, and religious leaders to support the campaign.

MoH has reported a rise in antimicrobial-resistant typhoid cases in Kenya, with children under 15 at significant risk, especially those under five, who face the highest mortality risk.

Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale warned that the spread of drug-resistant typhoid, fueled by climate change and rapid urbanization, poses a growing public health threat

A measles outbreak has also been confirmed in 18 counties, with 2,949 cases and 18 deaths recorded between January 2024 and February 2025.

“Our goal is clear: 95 per cent MR coverage and 80 per cent TCV coverage. No child should suffer or die from diseases we can prevent,” Duale stated.
