Former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Nancy Macharia has secured a prominent public service role just weeks after her retirement from national office.

Macharia has been nominated by Murang’a Governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata to serve as the Chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board.

In a formal communication to the County Assembly dated June 10, 2025, Governor Kang’ata submitted a list of nominees for appointment to the board.

This is in accordance with Section 6 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017 and Section 58A (7) of the County Governments Act, 2012.

The other nominees include Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu as board members, and Oscar Kimani Gathura as Secretary.

The list has been referred to the County Assembly’s Committee on Governance, Labour and Social Welfare, and Justice and Legal Affairs for vetting.

The committee is expected to conduct approval hearings to determine the suitability of each nominee.

The Assembly has up to 21 days from June 17 to consider the nominations and either approve or reject them.

If confirmed, Macharia will bring decades of experience in education administration and public service to the county board, which is tasked with overseeing recruitment, discipline, and human resource management for Murang’a County’s public servants.

Born in 1963, Ms. Macharia has trained both locally and internationally in Corporate Governance, Public Procurement, Policy Formation, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Proactive Management and Business Excellence Models, among others.

She holds a Master of Education (Policy and Management) degree from Bristol University, UK and a Bachelor of Education degree in English/Literature from Kenyatta University. She has worked in the education sector for more than 28 years.

She is a member of the Kenya Association of Public Administration Management (KAPAM) and Institute of Directors.
