The Agricultural Society of Kenya plans to revamp its Central Rift – Nakuru branch into a lively, all-year venue for agricultural exhibitions, community events, and innovation-based learning activities.

The Nakuru National Show, which began in 1920 as a branch of the Agricultural and Horticultural Society of Kenya, has long been a focal point for knowledge sharing.

Currently, the Nakuru showground only comes alive during the annual agricultural show, its single major event, leaving it underutilized for the rest of the year.

To address this, ASK Nakuru is finalizing a masterplan to maximize use of the grounds and support continuous engagement with farmers, youth, and agribusiness players.

Marketing Committee Chairman David Mwangi said the plan, now 80 percent complete, will detail how to convert the idle land into a dynamic resource hub.

“We’re working on a masterplan with a goal to keep this space active year-round, not just during a one-week annual show,” Mwangi stated.

The strategy proposes farmers’ clinics, agribusiness expos, livestock markets, student tours, and innovation fairs to make the grounds a knowledge-sharing and market-access centre.

Mwangi said these activities would grow community participation, diversify income sources, and open new business avenues for farmers, traders, and exhibitors across Nakuru and beyond.

He added that this transformation aligns with national efforts to modernize agriculture, boost food security, and promote agri-tech innovation among young people and professionals.

Currently, during the showground’s idle months, the society rents out space for events, hotel and shop stalls, offices, and sports, though these are irregular and limited.

This year’s show runs from Wednesday, July 2 to Sunday, July 6, featuring a vibrant mix of innovation, agribusiness, trade exhibitions, and family-friendly fun.

This year’s show, themed “Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” has already attracted over 200 exhibitors.
