Kenya could grind to a halt if runaway corruption is not urgently addressed, former Chief Justice David Maraga has warned.

Maraga said the scale of embezzlement of public funds is staggering, noting that hardly a day passes without fresh reports exposing corruption in government.

He claimed government systems such as e-Citizen had been turned into conduits for looting public resources at the expense of national development.

Maraga spoke in Nakuru City while officially opening the United Green Movement party offices at Kapkures in Nakuru Town West constituency.

“Kenya is on the verge of destruction and we cannot allow that to happen,” he stated while calling for urgent leadership change.

Maraga, who is also the UGM party leader, is seeking the presidency in the 2027 election on a platform centred on prudent management of public resources.

He said persistent corruption embedded in budget processes has crippled public services and undermined national development.

“I assure you that if elected President, I will stop the corruption right away,” he declared, pledging zero tolerance for conflict of interest in government.

Urging young people to register as voters, Maraga said the 2027 elections are extremely important and described them as a matter of life and death.

Responding to the small crowds at some meetings, he clarified that he does not distribute money to mobilise supporters, preferring genuine engagement.

The party’s deputy leader Agustino Neto urged young people to register as voters so they can define the country’s future and shape their own destinies.

“This is a national party. We have candidates for various seats across the country,” the former Ndhiwa MP said.

He further urged aspirants to seek elective positions on the party ticket, terming it as a national party governed by constitutional ideals.

Secretary General Katwa Wambua said the presidential candidate has so far toured eighteen counties, opening party offices and popularising the United Green Movement.

He added that constitutionalism, a principle strongly associated with Maraga, offers the best path to redeem the country and restore accountability in governance.

“We will form a government that follows the rule of law,” he declared, promising real change in how public institutions operate across the country.
