Outpatient services at Molo Sub-County Hospital were disrupted after a healthcare worker and a security guard were attacked during a confrontation over patient screening procedures.
The incident occurred during a disagreement linked to outpatient registration, including queries surrounding enrolment under the Social Health Authority.
In an unsigned statement, the Nakuru County Department of Health Services condemned the violence and termed it unacceptable.
“During the incident, a clinical officer was assaulted. A hospital security officer who moved in to protect the healthcare worker was seriously injured and referred to Nakuru Level 5,” the department said.
County officials said the attack followed a separate confrontation outside the hospital a day earlier, which later spilled into the facility and resulted in verbal abuse.
The department warned that health facilities must remain neutral and protected spaces dedicated solely to treatment and care for patients.
“Healthcare facilities must remain neutral, protected spaces dedicated solely to treatment and care. They should not become venues for personal, political, or social disputes,” the statement read.
Outpatient services have remained affected, with staff expressing concern over their safety following the incidents.
The county government said it was working with hospital management and security agencies to strengthen protective measures and prevent a recurrence.
Officials also urged members of the public to resolve grievances through dialogue and avoid actions that compromise patient care and safety.
