Three Recruits Die During Training Exercise at KDF School in Eldoret

Three recruits died on Thursday after suffering medical complications during a training exercise at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School in Eldoret, the Kenya Defence Forces has announced.
The incident occurred on January 29 during a scheduled endurance exercise at the facility in Uasin Gishu County.
According to the military, the recruits were given immediate medical attention at the training school before being evacuated to Eldoret Regional Hospital for specialised treatment.
“They were pronounced dead despite concerted efforts by the attending medical teams,” the KDF said in a statement.
The Defence Forces said the families of the deceased have been formally informed and that support is being extended to them.
KDF also conveyed condolences to the families, fellow recruits and colleagues of the deceased.
An investigation has been initiated in accordance with military procedures to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The outcome of the inquiry will inform any additional measures aimed at enhancing the safety and welfare of recruits during training.
The military said it remains committed to maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism and care across all its training institutions.
