Nakuru-based journalist and media trainer Daniel Ng’etich has earned regional acclaim after clinching second place in the agriculture reporting category at the Uganda National Journalism Awards 2025.

The awards ceremony, held in Kampala, celebrates excellence in journalism across East Africa and recognizes work that demonstrates depth, relevance, and impact.

Ng’etich’s award-winning story, Productive Use of Solar Energy in agriculture, a compelling feature explored how farmers are adopting solar technologies to boost productivity and sustainability.

The entry by the Egerton University’s media trainer stood out in a competitive pool of submissions from across the region, underlining his skill in telling development-focused stories with both clarity and heart.

Organized annually by the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME), the awards aim to promote quality journalism that can influence policy and improve lives.

ACME is a Kampala-based independent organization committed to equipping journalists and communicators across Africa to seek and achieve professional excellence.

“I’m deeply honored by this recognition. Mine is just to thank God,” Ng’etich said from Mestil Hotel in Kampala, Uganda this evening.

He noted that the recognition had motivated him to pursue more impactful stories across different sectors, especially those touching on human welfare and innovation.

“This award is a reminder of the role media plays in driving change when we tell stories responsibly and with purpose,” he added.

Ng’etich’s win is a proud moment for Nakuru and Kenya, showing how local journalists are helping shape East Africa’s stories through thoughtful, solutions-driven reporting.

The Chief Guest, Uganda Commissioner General John Musinguzi underscored the role of the media as a co-architect of the national agenda in very progressive society.

“We ask that your reporting accuracy remains non-negotiable and that your opinions are not passed as facts, and the institutions are held accountable with fairness without bias,” he stated.
