In the rolling highlands of Keringet, Nakuru County, mornings often break with the rhythmic sound of young runners pounding dusty trails. Among them was Lawi Kiplang’at Ng’etich, a determined teenager whose discipline quickly set him apart.

Under the watchful eye of coach Bernard Rono, the same mentor behind World U20 steeplechase champion Faith Cherotich, Lawi’s raw talent was refined into competitive edge.

Hours of training, unwavering focus, and a hunger to improve paid off earlier this year when he helped Kenya’s junior team secure gold at the CAA African U18/U20 Championships in Nigeria.

That victory was more than just a medal. It was a signal that Lawi was ready for bigger stages. Now, his journey takes him across the Atlantic to the University of Arizona, where he will join fellow Keringet runner Praise Chepkemoi.

The move not only opens doors to higher education but also puts him in one of the most competitive collegiate athletics programs in the United States.

Coach Rono expressed pride in Lawi’s progress, saying his discipline and commitment made success inevitable, though he wasn’t surprised by the young runner’s rapid rise

“Lawi has always been disciplined and attentive. He listens, learns, and works hard. I am also grateful to Town Hall Athletics for creating these opportunities for our young runners,” said Rono.

For Lawi, the dream of representing Kenya at the senior level is alive.

With Arizona’s world-class facilities and his strong foundation from Keringet, the young athlete is set to test himself against some of the best in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
