A family in Narok has demanded urgent disclosure of the whereabouts of a vocal Kipsigis land activist, raising concerns over his safety and possible violation of constitutional protections for arrested persons.
Lawyers representing the family say the activist, Johana Kiprono Lang’at, also known as Kamilan, was arrested on March 5, 2026 by officers believed to be attached to the National Police Service at Emurua Dikirr in Narok County.
According to the advocates, Lang’at’s whereabouts have remained unknown since the arrest, prompting alarm among relatives who say efforts to trace him through police stations and hospitals have so far been unsuccessful.
The family later reported the matter at Emurua Dikirr Police Station under OB number 10/8/3/2026 on March 8 after informal searches and inquiries failed to establish where he was being held.
In a formal demand letter to police authorities, the lawyers said continued failure to disclose the activist’s location raises serious concerns regarding his safety and the legality of his detention.
“The continued failure to disclose his whereabouts raises grave concern regarding his safety and constitutes a violation of the constitutional guarantees on liberty and the rights of arrested persons,” the lawyer Kipkoech Ng’etich stated.
The advocates have demanded that police urgently confirm whether Lang’at is in custody and disclose the specific police station where he is being held.
They also want authorities to facilitate immediate access to him by family members and legal counsel, arguing that such access is necessary to safeguard his welfare and uphold his constitutional rights.
“If he is in custody, we demand that he be produced before a court of law forthwith, or in the alternative released immediately if no charges have been preferred against him,” the lawyer added.
