The newly refurbished Afraha Stadium will host the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup final on Sunday, June 29, featuring a high-stakes clash between Kibera Soccer Women and Vihiga Queens. The thrilling finals will kick off at 2pm, East Africa Time.

Both teams are chasing their first FKF Women’s Cup title in what will be the fourth edition of the tournament. Kibera punched their ticket to the final with a 2-0 win over Kenya Police Bullets on June 8 at Dandora Stadium.

Maximilla Robi broke the deadlock in the 54th minute before Faith Mboya converted a stoppage-time penalty to seal the result. The win followed Kibera’s dramatic quarter-final upset over defending champions Ulinzi Starlets, decided on penalties after a goalless draw.

Vihiga Queens, four-time FKF Women’s Premier League champions, edged Bungoma Queens 2-1 in a tense semi-final at Mumias Sports Complex. Diana Cherono Sigei struck early, Carolyne Khaemba equalized, and Noel Amutata netted the winner in the 84th minute to send Vihiga to their second-ever final.

This year’s final ensures a new name on the trophy after Ulinzi Starlets, champions in 2021, 2023, and 2024, were knocked out in the last eight. Kibera, runners-up last year, are eager to go one better.

“This was the target. Now, it’s time to focus on the final,” said Kibera coach David Bujego.

Vihiga’s coach Boniface Nyamuhnyamu credited his players for sticking to the game plan and believes their experience could be key.

The tournament received a major boost this year with a KSh 4.3 million sponsorship from betPawa, the first of its kind for Kenyan women’s football. It includes a “Locker Room Bonus” to reward teams directly.

With talent, grit, and silverware on the line, fans can expect fireworks at Afraha Stadium that has recently hosted athletics and football games after being closed for 4 years for renovation works.
