An intelligence-led operation has bust a suspected narcotics trafficking network, after detectives uncovered a multi-county scheme involving foreign nationals, seized drug exhibits, and cash in Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, working jointly with the Transnational Organised Crime Unit, launched the operation following credible intelligence about a planned narcotics exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County.

Upon arrival in Syokimau, officers established that the suspected exchange had been abruptly aborted, prompting a swift tactical shift after receiving real-time updates from covert sources monitoring the suspected traffickers.

The operation was redirected to Ruaka in Kiambu County, where detectives raided a residence within Mbuti Apartment, believed to be a key hub in the suspected narcotics distribution network.

During the search, officers recovered pellets and packaged substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, alongside digital weighing scales, multiple mobile phones, foreign passports, and cash in Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene, identified as Okeke Ikechukwu, a Nigerian national, and Alex Opondo, a Kenyan national, both believed to be central to the trafficking operation.

“The operation forms part of sustained intelligence-led efforts to dismantle transnational narcotics networks operating within the country,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The suspects were escorted to Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations for processing, as detectives secured all recovered exhibits pending comprehensive forensic analysis to establish the nature and origin of the substances.

The suspects will be arraigned in court as investigations continue, with detectives pursuing additional accomplices, gathering further evidence, and working to dismantle the wider criminal network behind the trafficking operation.
