Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata will be out of physical office engagements for about one month after sustaining a heel tendon injury.
The county government said Kang’ata was attending a Nutrition International meeting in Nairobi when he tripped and injured himself.
In a statement, the county said the governor had undergone medical assessment and was currently receiving treatment.
“Following medical assessment, the Governor is currently receiving treatment and has been advised to remain away from physical office engagements for approximately one (1) month to allow for full recovery,” the statement read.
The meeting had been organised by Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported organisation partnering with Murang’a and other counties on nutrition and public health programmes.
During his absence, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent him at events requiring the governor’s physical presence.
“Where the Governor’s physical presence is required, the Deputy Governor, H.E. Stephen Munania, will represent him,” the county government said.
The County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will also handle designated engagements as appropriate.
The county said official meetings will continue virtually from Monday as the governor recovers.
Murang’a County Government wished the governor a speedy recovery and thanked residents for their continued goodwill and prayers.
