Naivasha Member of Parliament, Jayne Kihara has denied claims that she has abandoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp.

She has accused unnamed adversaries of attempting to buy her loyalty.

Speculation intensified after Gachagua hosted Wakili Njoroge Ngigi, a Democracy for the Citizens Party-linked Naivasha MP aspirant, widely viewed as a close ally expected to challenge her.

In a fiery social media post, the legislator dismissed rumours suggesting she had broken ranks with the DCP leader.

“I see Singapoor bloggers are now on my case. Someone must remind them who Jayne Kihara is in our Kenyan Politics,” she stated.

The MP’s statement comes at a time when several of Gachagua’s once-loyal allies have decamped to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party.

Her prolonged absence from public events alongside the former Deputy President had fuelled speculation about her political allegiance.

But the MP made clear she would not be swayed by financial inducements.

“I think they’re used to dealing with politicians whose only language in politics is money and they now assume every politician has a price tag,” she said.

She said that if anyone was looking for leaders to buy using looted public money and had been directed to her, they should be sent back to the market.

The three-time Naivasha legislator insisted she left what she termed “the lying camp” long ago and has no intention of returning.

Her declaration follows the high-profile defection of Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who on Monday attended the UDA National Governing Council meeting at State House.

Wamuchomba, who had been one of Gachagua’s most vocal defenders, announced her support for President Ruto’s re-election bid.

“Already six roads and a tarmac project. Right now, as we speak, the tractors are on the road,” Wamuchomba said, citing development projects as her reason for rejoining the President’s camp.

She claimed she could not stand Gachagua’s personality, which she suggested does not befit a national leader.

Juja MP, George Koimburi has also recently decamped to President Ruto’s side, prompting Gachagua’s party to brand him a “government spy.”

The exodus has raised questions about the viability of the DCP, which Gachagua launched in May 2025 as an alternative political vehicle.

But Jayne Kihara appears undeterred by the defections.

She framed her political stance as being about national interests rather than personal ambition or financial gain.

“The journey to liberate this Country from the shackles of Corruption, dictatorship, extra judicial killings and perpetual lies is not about Jayne Kihara or Rigathi Gachagua but about the current and future generations,” she stated.

She added that some of them were ready to sacrifice anything for the sake of the nation and that she was not rejoining Ruto’s camp any time soon.

The MP has remained one of Mr Gachagua’s most steadfast supporters since his impeachment in October 2024.

Her loyalty has come at a cost.

In July 2025, she was arrested from her Naivasha home in a dramatic raid that she livestreamed on Facebook.

She was later driven to Naivasha Police Station and then to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for interrogation.

She protested the arrest, saying she could not assist police in investigating a matter she knew nothing about.

“They say they believe I have information that can help them,” she said at the time, describing the move as political persecution.

A month earlier, her security detail had been withdrawn.

The MP accused President Ruto of using state security to frustrate Gachagua’s allies.
